Broken, weak-willed, hopeless. Doomed to be fat forever.
This is how I felt for years. I started my first diet at age 10. At 16, I saved up my money just so I could sign myself up for a doctor-run weight loss clinic. When I was 35, and 340 lbs, I took the leap and underwent weight loss surgery, losing 120 lbs (yay!). At 39, I was back up over 300 pounds (oh, f&^%). Over the years I tried tons of diets and rode the weight loss roller coaster like it was my job.
Really, it is. So you’ve been living this way for years – I hear you. I want you to know that it’s ok, that you are ok, that you are enough and you matter regardless of your weight or jean size or food diary “fails”. Having this struggle does not make you any less worthy of love or a happy life. The good news is, the struggle can be over if you want it to be. It is safe to surrender.
It’s ok to finally admit that the next fad diet, or another super “skinny” food is not going to make any difference. It’s ok to NOT order that “magic pill” even though the infomercial is sooooo tempting. It’s definitely ok to stop pretending like you just accept being fat when you so totally aren’t okay with it.
Phew! Ready to let go of other people’s rules and the all the expert “shoulds”? Great, because that’s when meaningful, long-term weight loss can finally occur. You have to let go of the notion that there is only one way to get it done and instead, work on finding the way that is right for you. As you move forward and figure it out, not only will you lose the weight, but you’ll also experience a surge in confidence and start to trust yourself again.
How am I so sure? Because I did.
Now, it’s my mission to help you do the same. I’m Valerie, and I’d like to personally welcome you to [your] Thinner Life.
Working with me is the real deal because I’m living proof that permanent weight loss is achievable. I’ve walked in your shoes and I want nothing more than for you to feel the sense of accomplishment, joy and beauty that comes with learning to be kind to your body (and losing the weight for good!).
Imagine having a supportive best friend who picks you up when you’re down, supports you through the long haul, and teaches you strategies that work to lose the pounds for real. Imagine having someone to keep you on track when you fall off course, to remind you that you are totally worth it, to show you that you are stronger than you think, and to share in your successes. That’s me.
I want you to be thrilled when you look in the mirror. I want you to feel fabulous in the fitting room. I want you to have the confidence you desire. I want you to have everything you want, sans deprivation and starvation. Because you, my dear, deserve it.
The truth is, losing weight isn’t something that works by just reading some steps and following them (obviously, otherwise 2/3s of North America wouldn’t be overweight!). Weight loss is a skill, and I’m here to help you master it.
Think of losing weight like playing tennis. Understanding the game is one thing, but in order to be the champion, you have to practice and you have to stick with it. (Not to mention, when you mess up, you can’t just storm off the court for 3 months and come back expecting to pick up right where you left off). And you know what makes tennis players even better? Having a coach that knows the strategies to help you win.
